Teach-In, conference this month to focus on health disparities research

The Center for the Advancement of Health Disparities Research, a joint project with the University of Hawaii based at the UW School of Nursing, will sponsor an afternoon Teach-In at the UW Health Sciences Center on Thursday, April 28.

Following that event, the organization will hold a joint two-day conference with the Asian American Pacific Islander Nursing Association. The two-day conference will be at the UW Seattle campus.

The Teach-In will include presentations by UW faculty and graduate students and by faculty members from other institutions. Topics include reflections on health disparities research, health-care policy on mental health and addictions, engaging minority and low-income communities, and the importance of mentoring. All presentations will be followed by discussion and dialogue. The sessions begin at 1:30 p.m. in room T-661 of the Health Sciences Center. There is no cost, but participants are asked to reserve a spot by e-mailing lmason@u.washington.edu.

The two-day conference on April 29 and 30 requires pre-registration by April 12. For a full schedule and registration form, see the Web site at http://www.son.washington.edu/centers/hdc/Calendar.asp
