Tolerating transplants

Dr. Hugh Auchincloss, professor of surgery at Harvard Medical School and a noted transplant surgeon, will be on campus to present Transplant Grand Rounds at noon on Friday, Feb. 25, in room RR-134 of the Health Sciences Center.

His topic is “Transplantation Tolerance: From Mouse to Man.” For more than 15 years, Auchincloss has maintained a transplantation immunology laboratory at Massachusetts General Hospital, where he studies islet transplantation for diabetes and mechanisms of graft rejection. He is also deputy director of the national Immune Tolerance Network.

He was director of Harvard’s Center for Islet Transplantation from 1998 until 2003 and is now deputy editor of the American Journal of Transplantation and a member of several editorial boards. He has received numerous awards, including the Novartis Established Investigator Basic Science Award from the American Society of Transplantation.
