Baker awarded Feynman Prize in Nanotechnology
Dr. David Baker, associate professor of biochemistry, has been awarded a Foresight Institute Feynman Prize in Nanotechnology. Baker received the award at a ceremony in Washington, D.C., Oct. 22, the opening night of the institute’s first Conference on Advanced Nanotechnology.
Baker and Dr. Brian Kuhlman, formerly a postdoctoral researcher in Baker’s lab and now assistant professor of biochemistry at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, were recognized for their development of RosettaDesign, a program for designing stable protein structures. The institute recognized the work as a milestone on a path toward molecular machine systems.
Gautam Dantas, a graduate student in Baker’s lab, was also a finalist for the prize.
The Foresight Institute is a nanotechnology think tank based in Palo Alto, Calif. The Feynman Prize is named in honor of pioneering physicist Richard Feynman.
