News and Information

Vice President for Student Affairs Ernest R. Morris has announced the 2004-05 University of Washington President’s Scholar. She is Margaret M. Hess, a resident of Seattle and graduate of Roosevelt High School. (Ms. Hess is also a 2004-05 UW Undergraduate Scholar and National Merit Scholar.)

President’s scholarships are awarded each year to one or more freshmen who are residents of the state of Washington.

According to Morris, Ms. Hess was chosen from among all freshmen admitted to the UW for the 2004 autumn quarter. In making the selection, such factors as high school academic achievement, leadership potential and civic involvement were considered.

President’s scholarships are designed to help outstanding students meet their overall educational costs and are awarded for four years. In the 2004-05 academic year, the scholarship will be worth about $6,100, a sum approximating the annual cost of tuition and fees and a $900 allowance for books and supplies.
