UW Bothell names new Education Program director
Susan Douglas Franzosa has accepted the position of director and professor of education at the University of Washington, Bothell.
The director of education at the UW Bothell participates in the campus-wide decision-making and community outreach typical of a dean, while also providing the leadership typical of a department chair. Franzosa’s responsibilities will include planning and allocating program resources, collaborating with faculty in program and curriculum development, as well as supporting professional development for faculty in the areas of teaching effectiveness, scholarship, and service. She will also collaborate with faculty and staff to integrate curriculum and field experiences and to nurture partnerships with area schools. In addition, she will develop and teach a limited number of courses in the fifth-year Teacher Certification Program and the Master of Education Program.
Franzosa comes to the UW Bothell from the University of New Hampshire where her most recent position was director of the UNH Women’s Studies Program. Franzosa began her academic career as a faculty member teaching Social Foundations of Education in the Department of Education at the University of New Hampshire. She has held various administrative positions including the UNH Interim vice president for academic affairs, director of the UNH Unit for Professionals in Education, and chair of the Department of Education. She has also served as the director of the UNH Study Abroad Program at Regent’s College in London.
UW Bothell is an upper-division campus, offering junior and senior level classes for bachelor degrees and masters programs. At the undergraduate level students are offered the following bachelor’s degrees: business, computing and software systems, environmental science, interdisciplinary studies, and nursing (RN-BSN). UW Bothell offers the following graduate degrees/certification: teacher certification K-8, master of business administration, master of arts in policy studies, master of education, and master of nursing.
