UW Bothell names vice chancellor
G. Thomas Bellamy has been named vice chancellor for academic affairs at UW Bothell. He will serve as chief academic officer for the campus and will report to Chancellor Warren W. Buck.
“The University of Washington, Bothell is fortunate to have attracted an academic leader like Tom Bellamy,” said Buck. “He is an experienced administrator and well-respected scholar and teacher. We are very pleased that Dr. Bellamy has joined our team.”
Bellamy brings strong administrative experience to the post as well as an outstanding record of scholarly achievement. He comes to UW Bothell from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, where he served for two years as interim vice chancellor for adademic affairs. Prior to that appointment, he served as dean of the School of Education at the University of Colorado at Denver. He earned a doctorate in special education from the University of Oregon.
Among Bellamy’s first responsibilities will be to lead the work group drafting a response to Substitute House Bill 2707. The bill, passed during the last legislative session, requires UW Bothell to “examine its instructional programs, costs, research initiatives, student enrollment characteristics, programs offered in partnership with community and technical colleges, and regional context and make a recommendation by Nov. 15 to the Higher Education Coordinating Board regarding the future evolution of the campus.”
Bellamy is a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Teacher Education and also serves on the Board of Directors for the American Association of Colleges of Teacher Education. He is a widely cited researcher in special education, specializing in effective teaching of individuals with severe cognitive disabilities.
