Author of “The Drake Equation” to deliver lecture at UW

News and Information

WHO: Frank Drake, SETI Institute board chairman and author of “The Drake Equation”

WHAT: Free public lecture — “How to Find ET: The Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI)”

WHEN: Wednesday, June 16, 8 p.m.

WHERE: Room 120 Kane Hall, University of Washington Seattle campus

DETAILS: In 1961, Frank Drake postulated his now-famous equation for determining how many worlds populated by intelligent, communicating civilizations there might be in our galaxy. His equation actually was intended as a means of focusing on the factors — such as how many stars are in the galaxy, how many of those have planets, how many planets per star are capable of sustaining life — that determine how many such civilizations there might be. His lecture will discuss the current status of SETI (search for extraterrestrial intelligence), including recent initiatives aimed at finding radio or light signals from a distant civilization.
