Architectural theorist to speak on the World Trade Center
Architectural theorist and historian Anthony Vidler will present a lecture, to lecture, “Reflections on Architecture and the Public Realm: The World Trade Center 1964-2004” at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 27 in 110 Kane.
Vidler is Professor and Dean of the Irwin S. Chanin School of Architecture at The Cooper Union. The author of several books, including Warped Space: Art, Architecture, and Anxiety in Modern Culture (2000) and The Architectural Uncanny: Essays in the Modern Unhomely (1992), Vidler is currently at work on Contemporary Architecture: Theories and Design
1968-2000, forthcoming from Oxford University Press.
A frequent contributor to such publications as The New York Times, Bomb, Artforum International,
and The Times Literary Supplement, Vidler shares his historical and theoretical insights concerning the complex and difficult relationships between politics, social thought, and architectural design.
He has taught at Princeton University and the University of California, Los Angeles and is
the recipient of awards from the Guggenheim Foundation, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the Getty Center.
Vidler’s lecture, which is sponsored by the Simpson Center for the Humanities, is free and open to the public.
