‘Go Red for Women’ luncheon, seminars Feb. 25

The UW Medicine Regional Heart Center is the primary sponsor for the “Go Red for Women” luncheon and seminars planned by the American Heart Association as part of a national campaign to educate women about their risks for heart disease and related conditions.

The event will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 25, at the downtown Seattle Sheraton Hotel. Dr. April Stempien-Otero, associate professor of medicine in the Division of Cardiology, is a featured speaker at the luncheon, along with radio host Delilah. Jean Enersen and Joyce Taylor, KING 5 television news anchors, will be the MCs.

The morning seminars will offer seven topics to choose from, with several UW heart disease experts among the presenters. Dietician Susan Bussell will talk about heart-smart foods; Dr. Marie-Annette Brown, professor of nursing, will speak on stress and body blues; Dr. Susanna Cunningham, professor of nursing and a heart disease researcher, will talk about hormone replacement therapy and the heart; Christina Coops, cardiac nurse practitioner, will have tips on preventing heart disease, and Laurie Soine, clinical nursing specialist, will cover the basics in “Heart Disease 101.”

Participants can attend the seminars and luncheon, or the luncheon only. Tickets are $65 for both and $45 for the luncheon only. For a brochure or more information, contact the AHA office at 206-525-7665 or e-mail GoRedForWomenInSeattle@heart.org
