Jeffords leaves Arts and Sciences for new post as vice provost

Acting Provost David Thorud has appointed Professor Susan Jeffords as vice provost for academic planning.

As vice provost, Jeffords will be involved with issues such as enrollment management and accountability, furthering institutional diversity efforts, academic program reviews and assessment, and advising the provost.

Jeffords also will provide oversight and coordination on two new institutional innovation programs. The Fund for Educational Innovation, now being implemented is providing one-time grants for innovative approaches to undergraduate education. The second fund, still in the planning stages, will provide one-time grants for University-wide innovative ideas, including those from administrative and service units.

Her initial appointment is for a fixed period, through June 30, 2005.

Jeffords has served as divisional dean for social sciences in the College of Arts and Sciences since 1995. Her faculty appointment is in English and women studies. Jeffords joined the UW faculty as an assistant professor in 1985. She became associate professor in 1989. She was director of women studies from 1992 to 1995. She was promoted to the rank of professor in 1994.

Her research interests are theory, gender and militarism issues, feminist theory and popular culture.
