Clark named Biostructure chair

Dr. John I. Clark has been named chair of the School of Medicine’s Department of Biological Structure. Clark, a UW professor since 1991, had been serving as acting chair. He also has an adjunct appointment in the Department of Ophthalmology.

After completing a bachelor’s degree from Dartmouth College in 1968, he received a Ph.D. in biological structure from the UW in 1974. Clark was also a postdoctoral fellow at Harvard University and a research fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He was an assistant professor at both MIT and Harvard Medical School, and joined the UW faculty in 1982.

Clark is studying development and structure of the eye’s lens at the cellular and molecular level.
