Faculty consulting, conflict-of-interest rules explained at Nov. 5 presentation

The “Things Your Mother Never Taught You” series, sponsored by the School of Medicine’s Office of Industry Relations, will present a program on “Faculty Consulting and Conflict of Interest” from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 5, in room D-209, Turner Auditorium at the Health Sciences Center. The presentation will focus on School of Medicine guidelines and review procedures, but is open to everyone.

Speakers are Dr. Susan Wray, director of industry relations in the School of Medicine, and Michael Corn, director of regulatory guidance, also in the School of Medicine.

They will talk about the basic rules for faculty consulting and how to prevent conflict-of-interest concerns, and will also discuss the UW’s programs to encourage collaborations with outside industries. The presentation will include time for individual questions about consulting arrangements and start-up business formation.

The next program in the series will be on Wednesday, Dec. 3, when the topic is “Successful Biomedical Patents and Products.” For more information on the series, contact Vee White at 543-8319 or veewhite@u.washington.edu.
