Surgery Pavilion dedication

UW Medical Center’s new Surgery Pavilion was dedicated Friday evening, Sept. 19, and several open house events that day and Saturday morning gave staff, faculty, neighbors and football fans a chance to have a look inside the new building.

The light-filled building at the east end of the UW Medical Center is at the corner of Pacific Street N.E. and Montlake Boulevard N.E. The structure has been designed to preserve views toward the Cascade range and the Montlake Bridge, and it is linked to the rest of the medical center with a glass walkway and terraced landscaping.

Two floors of the Surgery Pavilion have space for clinics, patient services and teaching areas. The middle floor has 11 operating suites, along with pre-surgery and recovery areas. A parking garage for patients using the Pavilion is right under the building.

“With the Surgery Pavilion, our goal is to establish a new standard for outpatient surgical care and training in the Northwest,” said Dr. Mika Sinanan, the medical center’s chief of staff and professor of surgery. “In designing the building and its clinical operations, we have sought to inspire operational efficiency and an ideal environment for all of our patients, faculty, students and staff.”
