U.S. News & World Report Magazine Names Harborview’s Orthopaedics Department as 9th in the Country

Seattle, WA. — U.S. News & World Report Magazine rated Harborview Medical Center’s Orthopaedics Department as one of the top 10 centers for orthopaedic care in the country. The rankings will appear in the July 28 issue. Harborview’s orthopaedic services has been consistently ranked as one of the top in the country by U.S. News & World Report.

“It’s a great achievement for the faculty, nurses, and staff in our department and an honor to be recognized as one of the leading orthopaedic services in the country,” said Dr. Bruce Sangeorzan, chief of Orthopaedics at Harborview and a UW professor. “As the only Level I trauma center for the region, Harborview sees some of the most complex orthopaedic injuries in the Pacific Northwest, which makes this ranking especially satisfying.”
U.S. News & World Report Index rankings measure 17 specialties, including orthopaedics, from 6,003 hospitals across the country. U.S. News, in conjunction with the National Opinion Research Center, evaluated hospitals using a mathematical model combining reputation among board-certified specialists, death rate statistics, and other medical data such as the various medical technologies available.

Besides Harborview Medical Center, U.S. News’ Honor Roll of the Orthopedics Specialty listing includes: 1) Mayo Clinic, 2) Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, 3) Massachusetts General Hospital, 4) Johns Hopkins Hospital, 5) Cleveland Clinic, 6) Duke University Medical Center, 7) UCLA Medical Center, 8) University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, 9) Harborview Medical Center and 10) University of Washington Medical Center.
