Reconstructing the nose

The intricacies of reconstructing the human nose will be the topic for the 10th annual Buehler Lecture, sponsored by the Department of Surgery’s Division of Plastic Surgery.

Dr. Rod Rohrich, professor and chair of the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, is the speaker. He will talk about “Refinements in Nasal Reconstruction: Beyond Nasal Subunits” at 6:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 26, in room K-069 of the Health Sciences Center. The lecture is also the Surgical Grand Rounds presentation for that week.

Rohrich is an internationally known surgeon and an innovative leader and educator in plastic surgery. This year, he is president-elect of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, as well as a member of that organization’s Board of Directors. He is also co-editor of the Journal of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, the leading journal for plastic surgeons, and an editor for Selected Readings in Plastic Surgery. He recently co-edited a text on nasal reconstruction with the title Dallas Rhinoplasty—Surgery by the Masters.

The lecture is named for Dr. Peter Buehler, who was an associate professor of surgery in the division from 1979 to 1984, when he died while bicycling near his home in Issaquah. The lectureship was established to honor his memory and the vision of teaching and patient care he pursued in his career.
