UWPD offering Citizens Academy

A free academy for people interested in learning more about the UW Police Department begins Wednesday, Jan. 8 and continues through March 12.

The class will cover information on arrest, search and seizure; defensive tactics; lethal weapons; high-speed chase and high-risk stop; and shoot/don’t shoot decisions, among other things. There are no special requirements for taking the course, but UWPD will screen each candidate and will reserve the right to refuse an applicant.

The Citizen Academy will meet from 3 to 5 p.m. on Wednesdays and the application deadline is Dec. 30. Only 20 students will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis.
