Callus featured in viola concert

Music for viola by UW composers will be featured at a concert at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 25 in Meany Theater.

Violist Helen Callus will be performing on all the pieces, and sometimes other musicians will join her. The program includes Diane Thome’s Like a Seated Swan for viola and computer-realized sound; Joel-Francois Durand’s Cinq Duos, with violinist Kyung Sun Chee; and Ken Benshoof’s Rondo, with Carole Terry on harpsichord.

“In addition to paying tribute to the UW composition faculty,” Callus said, “I chose this repertoire so I could get to know the music of my colleagues and take advantage of the luxury of being able to talk to and work directly with the composers.”

Callus will also play Sonata, a piece by English composer Rebecca Clarke, with Jeffrey Gilliam on the piano.

Tickets for the concert are $10, $8 for students and seniors. They are available at the Arts Ticket Office, 206-543-4880.
