Opera plays Nov. 13–17 at Meany

The UW School of Music will present Cimarosa’s Il Matrimonio Segreto Nov. 13–17 in Meany Theater. The opera is directed by Claudia Zahn, with musical direction by Peter Eros.

The plot concerns Signor Geronimo, a wealthy merchant who is trying to gain a noble title by marrying his older daughter off to Count Robinson. But the count prefers the younger daughter, Carolina, who is secretly married to her father’s employee Paolino, who in turn is conveted by the daughters’ widowed aunt. Romantic complications abound.

“The story of a family’s social aspirations is humorous, yet plausible,” says Zahn. “There are lyrically captivating arias, enchanting melodies and sparkling, wonderful ensembles.”

The opera plays at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday and Friday and 3 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $20, $10 for students and seniors, and are available at the Arts Ticket Office, 206-543-4880. For more information on this and other arts events, go to www.artsuw.org.
