Shostak to talk on extraterrestrials
The SETI Institute’s Seth Shostak will be on campus Monday, Oct. 28 to talk about the search for extraterrestrial beings.
Shostak will give a lecture at 4 p.m. in 120 Kane for area middle school and high school students, their parents and teachers. That event is already fully booked, according to organizers in the UW’s Center for Astrobiology and Early Evolution, which is sponsoring his appearance. Shostak will deliver another talk at 7:30 p.m. in 220 Kane. That event is free and open to the public.
The SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) Institute was founded in 1984. Its mission is to “explore, understand and explain the origin, nature, prevalence, and distribution of life in the universe.” The research group, based in Mountain View, Calif., is currently using massive radio telescopes to eavesdrop for alien broadcasts.
