Large classes are focus of forum series

The fall Quarterly Forum on Teaching and Learning will feature sessions on three different days, led by UW instructors speaking on their experiences teaching large classes at the UW. And although large classes are the focus, speakers will address teaching and learning issues relevant to classes of all sizes.

All three sessions will meet in the Walker Ames Room, Kane Hall, at 3:30 p.m. Dates, speakers, and special emphases for sessions are as follows:

  • Thursday, Oct. 17, Interaction/Use of Small Groups in Large Classes, Ann Baker, Philosophy; Steve Wolfman, Computer Science and Engineering

  • Wednesday, Oct. 23, Use of Technology in Large Classes, Lisa Coutu, Communication; Jaime Diaz, Psychology

  • Thursday, Nov. 7, Working with TAs in Large Classes, Haideh Salehi-Esfahani, Economics; Scott Eberhardt, Aeronautics and Astronautics

Sessions are designed to be highly interactive. Enrollment will be limited in order to provide ample opportunity for audience engagement and participation.
