Roy Chan

Roy Chan is this year’s President’s Medalist. The medal is given to the top senior in the graduating class, although this isn’t necessarily the student with the highest grade point. The medalist is judged on his or her overall academic record, including grades.

Chan has a double major in Comparative Literature and Russian Language and Literature, attending the UW on a Washington State Scholar Award. He is also the recipient of four Pride Foundation/Greater Seattle Business Association scholarships for sexual minority youth.

Chan has been on the Dean’s List for the past three years and spent one summer studying in St. Petersburg, Russia. He has directed a student-led Russian conversation table and has volunteered at a number of foreign language activities, including tutoring high school students in Russian.

Chan plans to head to the University of California at Berkeley in the fall where he plans to study Russian, French and Chinese literatures, the history of the novel, critical theory, psychoanalysis and gay and lesbian studies.
