Investors will focus on medical devices

A half-day educational program on the medical device market and investing in medical device start-up companies is set for Thursday morning, Oct. 10, in Hogness Auditorium at the Health Sciences Center.

The School of Medicine Industry Relations Office and the Washington Biotechnology and Biomedical Association are co-hosting the event, which will be the Fall Investor Forum for the “Alliance of Angels,” an umbrella organization of investors and venture-capital firms.

The program is designed for early-stage investors, early-stage venture capitalists, entrepreneurs and researchers. Following an industry overview by Dr. Paul Ramsey, vice president for medical affairs and dean of the School of Medicine, speakers and panelists will explain market trends, provide company evaluation techniques and share practical advice for investing in medical device companies.

In addition to Ramsey, scheduled speakers and panelists are Christopher Somogyi of Somogyi Ventures, David Giuliani of Optiva Corp., Scott Menick of ARCH Venture Partners, David Hatton of Aseptica Inc., and Gary Kocher and Mary Williamson, both of Preston Gates & Ellis. Dan Rosen of Frazier Technology Ventures and Chuck Hirsch of Madrona Venture Group will be masters of ceremonies.
