Drama season to include Seagull, experimental series
Season tickets are available now for a School of Drama season that includes West Coast and Northwest premieres, Russian classics, camp comedies and the return of the 10-minute play festival.
Not only that, but the drama school will begin a new performance series, Studio 201, meant to showcase material that is experimental in nature, intimate in theme or particularly challenging for student actors. These simply staged productions will be presented in 201 Hutchinson.
Highlights on the mainstage include Anton Chekhov’s masterpiece The Seagull, directed by UW Professor Mark Jenkins; a provocative Russian play, The Suicide: A Russian Comedy, directed by visiting Uzbek artist Mark Weil; and winner of the Olivier Award for best new play Goodnight Children, by Richard Nelson.
In addition, this year for the first time the School of Drama is teaming with Seattle Children’s Theatre to produce a play, The Outsiders, by S.E. Hinton. UW students will make up most of the cast and the design team for the play, slated for January.
