Mailing Services cutting back on deliveries

Beginning Monday, July 1, Mailing Services will decrease its daily service from twice a day to once a day to most UW box numbers. The daily delivery will be in the morning. Some box numbers will continue to receive twice-a-day service, but delivery times will change. The UW Medical Center and most of the Health Sciences complex will not be affected by this change.

While mail volume was the primary consideration used to determine frequency of service, the number of box numbers per delivery location and the accessibility of delivery location were also factors, said Mailing Services Manager Bobbie Jo Bay.

She said these changes will allow Mailing Services to respond to an increasing demand for service in a time of decreasing resources. Frequency of pickup and delivery may be periodically revised based on further study of volume and other factors.

The late afternoon collection boxes located throughout campus provide an alternative for afternoon drop-off of either campus or outgoing USPS mail. Also, Mailing Services will provide counter service for drop-off or pickup of mail until 6 p.m.

Additional information, including a complete listing of affected box numbers, estimated pickup and delivery times, and late afternoon collection box locations, is available on the Mailing Services Web site at: http://www.pubserv.washington.edu/mailing/delivery_changes.html
