McDermott to speak
Dr. Jim McDermott, who represents Washington’s seventh district in the U.S. House of Representatives, will be on campus Monday, March 4, to speak at the Grand Rounds presentation for the MEDEX physician assistant program.

He is scheduled to speak from 8 to 9 a.m. in room T-439 of the Health Sciences Center. His topic is “Now Is the Time for Universal Health Care in the United States of America.” The program is open to everyone. For more information, contact Cheryl Parker at MEDEX, 598-7445.


“Women Docs” on Lifetime
Lifetime television channel is scheduled to broadcast the third episode of “Women Docs” that includes physicians from the UW at 11 p.m., Sunday, March 3. Drs. Nicole Gibran and Florence Shadlen, who practice at Harborview, and Drs. Nicole Maronian and Barbara Goff, who practice at UW Medical Center, will be featured. The documentary series was produced by Enterainment Television. Check local schedules to confirm the time and date of the broadcast.


Harborview Gala
The Grand Ballroom of the Seattle Westin hotel will be the setting for the 10th annual Salute Harborview! Gala, set for Friday evening, March 15. The event includes cocktails, dinner, entertainment by Belinda Carlisle, and dancing. The benefit supports the efforts of the region’s only Level 1 trauma and burn center. Proceeds will contribute to endowment of a chair in Harborview’s Trauma Surgery unit. The community chair for the event is Jeri Rice, owner of the store with that name at Seattle’s Four Seasons Hotel. She is also a board member of the UW’s Center for Women and Democracy.
