Weyerhaeuser chief to discuss renewing company, recent merger

Steven Rogel, president and chief executive officer of Weyerhaeuser Co. and a key player in the company’s recent lengthy takeover bid for Willamette Industries will discuss his plans for the company’s increased performance during an address at the University of Washington Business School.

Rogel will speak at 8 a.m. Wednesday (Feb. 20) in the Husky Union Building’s West Ballroom. A continental breakfast will be served at 7:30 a.m.

Rogel will discuss the major decision’s he has made in more than four years at Weyerhaeuser, including the acquisition of Portland-based Willamette to form one of the world’s largest forest products companies.

The move was completed Monday, when Willamette’s shareholders agreed to accept Weyerhaeuser’s offer of $6.1 billion, or $55.50 a share.

Rogel became chairman, president and CEO of Weyerhaeuser in 1999. Before joining the Federal-Way company in 1997, he was president and CEO of Willamette. He received his bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the UW in 1965.

His talk is one in a series of lectures hosted by UW Business School Dean Yash Gupta. Upcoming speakers are:
