U-DOC summer program offers support for high school students

U-DOC is a six-week high school summer enrichment program offered by the UW School of Medicine’s Office of Multicultural Affairs. The program is designed for students finishing their junior year of high school who come from disadvantaged backgrounds. Its goal is to encourage students’ interest in the health professions by letting them explore health careers while getting an introduction to college life. Program components include communications, chemistry, anatomy, mathematics, research, mentoring, and an introduction to health careers.

Each student selected for the U-DOC program receives a full scholarship, which covers on-campus costs and reimbursement for a round trip to Seattle.

Participating students are from all over Washington state. The U-DOC program works closely with UW’s Office of Minority Affairs Upward Board Program.

This year’s U-DOC program runs from June 23 to August 3. Applications are due Feb. 28, 2002. Further information is available on the U-DOC web site, at http://depts.washington.edu/omca/UDOC/. Questions may be sent to Terri Lynch via e-mail at tlynch@u.washington.edu, or call 206-685-2489.
