Statement of UW President Richard L. McCormick regarding plane crash in Mexico

The University of Washington suffered a terrible, sad loss yesterday when a number of very good friends and supporters went down in a plane crash in Mexico. All were participating in a trip reflective of their deep involvement with our University and its athletic program. Our hearts go out to their families and friends in their time of grief and sorrow. Among the group was the past president of the University’s Alumni Association, Geoff Vernon and his wife Judy. Both were very enthusiastic and prominent members of the University of Washington family. Their death, and the death of those traveling with them, is a heavy blow to us all.
