MBA students raise $90,000, prepare to defend charity title

The University of Washington Business School MBA Challenge for Charity team is gearing up to defend its title against the west coast’s top business graduate schools. And after raising $90,000 for Washington Special Olympics and the Boys & Girls Clubs of King County charity, they are the UW off to a successful start for the philanthropic competition.

The students raised the money at their annual silent auction event in February. Last year the team collected $55,000 for the two charities.

The Challenge for Charity match is among six graduate business schools — University of California at Berkeley, University of California, Los Angeles, University of Southern California, UC Irvine and Stanford University. Teams compete in fund-raising, for the highest accumulation of volunteer hours, and during an athletic and camaraderie competition to be held at Stanford (April 20-22) this weekend. More than 100 MBA students will participate in the competition.

UW Business School MBA Challenge for Charity team officers are Jeana Jorgensen of Bainbridge Island, Dennis Karlinsky of Westlake Village, Calif., Jeannine Kappes of Rolling Meadows, Ill., Michael Lew of Union City, Calif., and Cindy Chin, Andrew Weber and Dan Schroeder, all of Fremont in Seattle.
