Three judges receive UW Law School alumni honors

Three prominent judges were honored Nov. 9 by the University of Washington Law School Alumni Association.

Distinguished Alumni Awards were presented to Gerry Alexander ’64, chief justice-elect of the Washington Supreme Court, and Wm. Fremming Nielsen ’60, chief judge of the Eastern District of Washington, U.S. District Court.

Betty Fletcher ’56, a member of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit, received the Henry M. Jackson Public Service Award. She is a former president of the Federal Judges Association and Seattle-King County Bar Association.

The Henry M. Jackson Public Service Award was established in 1996, and recognizes graduates who have distinguished themselves through public service. Fletcher will be the fourth recipient. The Distinguished Alumni Award, established in 1981, is based on a record of civic, professional and community service.

The awards were presented by Kimberly Ellwanger ’85 at the association’s annual banquet at the Four Seasons Olympic Hotel in Seattle.
