Ralph Nader to address Law School on globalization and the WTO

Consumer advocate Ralph Nader will address the University of Washington Law School tomorrow (Thursday, Dec. 2) on his criticisms of the World Trade Organization ? issues that have drawn thousands of protesters to the streets during this week’s WTO conference in Seattle

The 3:30 p.m. speech, open to the public, arose from an invitation by the Public Interest Law Association, a student group, and the UW student chapter of the National Lawyers Guild.

Honored by Time magazine as one of the 100 most influential Americans of the 20th century, Nader has emerged as a leading voice against what he calls “control of world economies by giant corporations that don’t have any allegiance to a community.”

“The essence of globalization,” Nader recently wrote, “is a subordination of human rights, labor rights, consumer environmental rights and democracy rights.

A half-hour question-and-answer session will follow Nader’s hourlong talk.
