MEDIA ADVISORY: Scientists to issue report detailing regional impact of climate change

DETAILS: 19 scientists from the UW and other regional institutions have compiled a report on how climate change in the Northwest will affect water resources, salmon, forests and coastlines. The report, part of a national assessment of the effects of climate change, suggests the likelihood of substantial change in the next 50 years. This is the first regional report to be completed and differs from previous reports by other groups in that it examines a broad range of possible impacts and advocates that planning begin now to cope with the changes.
DIRECTIONS: Park in the UW’s Central Plaza Parking Garage beneath Red Square (enter at Northeast 42nd Street and 15th Avenue Northeast). Enter Suzzallo Library at the east edge of Red Square, follow a long walkway to Allen Library and take the stairway down to the first floor. The auditorium is directly ahead, in the left rear corner of the library.
NOTE: Reporters outside the Seattle area who are unable to attend the news conference can listen to the event on a telephone conference call.
