Higher Education Day in Tacoma: Oct. 7

Presidents and executive officers of universities and colleges serving the greater Tacoma area will meet in a public forum with state legislative candidates from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Oct. 7 in the Kilworth Chapel at the University of Puget Sound. The event is part of the state-wide Higher Education Day declared by Gov. Mike Lowry. Similar forums will be held on other college campuses throughout the state on this same day.
The forum will be a discussion among candidates in the Tacoma area. Kelso Gillenwater, publisher of The News Tribune in Tacoma, will introduce the event, and Peter Callaghan, also of The News Tribune, will serve as moderator. The audience and members of the media will be able to ask questions of forum participants.

The forum was organized by the presidents and executive officers from the University of Washington Tacoma, University of Puget Sound, Pacific Lutheran University, The Evergreen State College, Medicine Creek Tribal College, Pierce College, Tacoma Community College, Bates Technical College, and Clover Park Technical College. This event is being sponsored by The News Tribune.

Higher Education Day was established by Gov. Lowry as a day for public and private institutions of higher education around the state to cooperate in putting together candidate/legislative forums in the districts and communities they share.
