Definitions
- Outlook
Microsoft Outlook 2007 provides an integrated solution for managing your
email, scheduling, contacts and tasks. Outlook allows you to quickly search your
communications, organize your work,
and better share your information with others — all from one place.
Outlook is installed and configured on each Nebula user's desktop.
It is sometimes referred to as the "desktop client" for MS Exchange.
- Outlook Web Access (OWA)
OWA is the online companion to Outlook 2007.
OWA allows you to use a Web browser to access your Microsoft Outlook 2007 mailbox and calendar from any computer with an internet connection. It is found at
https://exchange.washington.edu/owa.
Rules should only be configured using OWA because they are saved to the
Exchange server(s) instead of the Outlook desktop.
- Microsoft Exchange
Microsoft Exchange is a collection of messaging and collaborative software products developed by Microsoft. Exchange's major features consist of electronic mail, calendaring, contacts and tasks; support for mobile and web-based access to information; and support for data storage.
- Global Address List (GAL)
The GAL is a directory within the Microsoft Exchange email system. The GAL contains information for all email users, distribution groups, and Exchange resources. It is updated daily with information from the UW Directory and is thus recommended over your Contacts list as your best source of email addresses for UW employees.
