Remote Desktop Connection changes
As of December 15, 2006, the version of the Remote Desktop client on Nebula workstations was updated via the Automatic Updates service. Remote Desktop allows you to connect to another Windows computer and work on it as though you were sitting in front of it. This page is to outline the changes implemented in this software.
The starting screen is slightly different in appearance, but functions the same. You type in machine name or IP address to establish the connection.
However, the location of the default shortcut has changed slightly. It is now under Start - Programs - Accessories:

In addition to the changes in the icon's appearance and its location in the Start Menu, the program behaves differently.
In order to enhance security, you will now have to log on with your Nebula2 domain credentials. In practical terms, this means that where you used to just put in your username (UW NetID), your login will now look like this:
your UW NetId
Here is a screenshot of the login dialog, demonstrating how it now should work:
Other improvements in Remote Desktop Connection include support for dual monitors and better support for local printing from your remote desktop (you can print from your work computer on your home printer).
Please contact nebula@u.washington.edu if you should have any problems, questions, or if you notice different behavior than what is described here.
