Using Outlook Express in Nebula
Outlook Express is a popular graphical email client. We can help you use the OE configuration program supported by UW Technology, and help you learn to back up your address book. There are some things that you should be aware of when you use Outlook Express as your email client.
- Outlook Express is installed and configured for a particular person, on a particular machine. Thus, the program and its features (such as addressbook) are only available to you on the machine on which it has been installed. Other email clients, such as PC Pine and WebPine, are available on any Nebula desktop, including the addressbook feature.
- Your Nebula support person will help you configure Outlook Express so that it stores its email folders on the central servers, where file backup and restore services are available. Unfortunately, the Outlook Express addressbook can only be stored on the local C: drive. However, you can export its contents and then copy them to the file server for security.
- Stay vigilant regarding viruses and other malware spread by email attachments, as Outlook Express is a favored target of these products. Don't open any attachment before verifying it with the sender, and don't click on any link in an email. Type the address into your browser's box manually, to ensure you are not diverted to another site where simply rolling your mouse can infect your computer.
Nebula Support also offers Thunderbird, another graphical email client. This software is available via an automatically installed package sent to your computer. Please contact Nebula Support at nebula@u for more information.
