Nebula server options include:
- Locally Managed Server
- SQL Server
Nebula "Locally Managed Server" option
Nebula offers, free to Nebula clients, a Locally Managed Server option. These servers are managed by local support from within the client department, but are also monitored by the Nebula reporting process. Included are standard domain services for authentication and authorization, patch status reports via email, and access to the Nebula VPN. Locally managed server service does not include support for applications or Group Policy configuration. Those remain the responsibility of local computing support staff. If desired, locally managed servers may be configured to use the Nebula Automatic Update service.
This option is intended to provide a home for unique departmental Windows servers that need to be managed locally, without the overhead of running a domain. It also identifies these servers as components to be considered in any Nebula-wide planning or changes.
It is expected that all Locally Managed Servers will be managed and maintained in accordance with the Minimum Computer Security Standards.
Nebula SQL Server
Space on a UW Technology managed, clustered SQL server is now available for Nebula clients. This space is appropriate for production databases that are running correctly on the client's equipment. There is no development space available. Data in a Microsoft Access database can be easily imported into a SQL database. Nebula and UW Technology can work closely with clients to convert Microsoft Access data. Access rights are assigned to trusted-domain accounts. The current size limit for each database is 500MB. Nebula Support will work with the client to define their needs, and provide support for basic database functionality. .
Please contact Nebula Support to discuss either of these options.
