Golden Apple Award for Teaching Excellence

Awards and Recognition for MEDEX Faculty and Adjunct Faculty		 golden apple

MEDEX recognizes the unique contributions of community educators who make student learning come alive by bringing current medical issues into the classroom with case studies, clinical applications and relevant clinical pearls. The junior students annually select adjunct faculty to receive the Golden Apple Award for Teaching Excellence from the wide range of healthcare providers that assist MEDEX: physician assistants, doctors, lab technicians, nurses, dentists, pharmacists– the list is endless. Students base their selection on how well the lecturer addresses the course objectives, their teaching style and how they made learning in the classroom relevant and fun. The contributions of the adjunct faculty are critically important to the program and the students, who take this information away with them into the clinical training year and later into practice.

The Golden Apple Award is awarded to adjunct faculty at each site: Seattle, Spokane and Yakima. The chosen recipients of this award are honored at the corresponding site’s graduation ceremony with a warm introduction, much applause and the presentation of the Golden Apple Award.  The teaching award was also presented in Sitka, Alaska in 1995 in conjunction with the one year MEDEX had a satellite based there. MEDEX is proud to note that a number of community lecturers have received the award year after year. After the third time, these special faculty are given the Golden Apple Award with the additional title “Perpetuity for Excellence in Teaching”. They are marked with an asterisk in the following lists of awardees:
