UW Admissions Requirements for BCHS degree option CORE REQUIREMENTS for admission into UW degree option: These UW admission requirements must be satisfactorily completed before the first quarter of enrollment at the UW. Almost all applicants will have satisfied these requirements through high school course work, which is generally defined as that completed in grades 9-12. There are, however, several ways to satisfy core requirements at the college level. In general, five-quarter credits (or three semester credits) at the college level equals one year of high-school study. If you completed a portion of the core requirements in high school, you can supplement high school courses with college course work.
A transfer student is one who has earned college credit at an accredited college or university after leaving high school. In general, 5 quarter credits at the college level is equivalent to one year of high school study. The basic UW admission requirements for transfer students are the same as for freshman. Please refer to the University of Washington Core Subject Requirements for more information. BCHS Degree Graduation Requirements MEDEX students must be admitted into the bachelor’s option during the time of their Physician Assistant training in order for your MEDEX coursework to be considered as matriculated credits. MEDEX students in the bachelor’s option must satisfy University of Washington graduation requirements before being awarded the Bachelor of Clinical Health Services degree. There is little time to take non-MEDEX courses within the two year P.A. Program so applicants may wish to work on satisfying some of these requirements before they are accepted by MEDEX. The summer between the MEDEX didactic and clinical year is also available to take some traditional courses that might be needed to meet graduation requirements. UW Admissions Transfer Credit Policies are detailed on the UW web site. Questions about whether you meet UW admissions requirements should be referred to the UW admissions office (206) 543-9686, email: askuwadm@u.washington.edu Advice about whether previous courses will satisfy graduation requirements is difficult to access until you have actually been accepted and your transfer credits evaluated by the UW. Once accepted by MEDEX and admitted to the UW you will be assigned a degree advisor. The following worksheet may give you some guidance in deciding whether your transfer courses will satisfy general distribution and proficiency requirements for the BCHS degree. 5th year students getting a second bachelor’s degree do not need to meet proficiency requirements 1. PROFICIENCY 2. AREAS OF KNOWLEDGE 3. UPPER DIVISION COURSES – MEDEX MAJOR 129 credits 4. UPPER DIVISION COURSES – NON MAJOR 12 credits Fifth Year/Post Baccalaureate Program If you are admitted to the MEDEX PA Training Program and already have a Bachelor’s Degree, you are admitted as a 5th Year/Post Baccalaureate student working towards a second degree. Additional Information For additional information about admission and transfer of credit, please contact the Office of Admissions. Quarter credits/semester credits:When core courses are taken at colleges that operate on the semester system, you can convert semester units to quarter credits by multiplying 1 semester unit by 1.5. For example, 10 semester units of English equals 15 quarter credits. |
