Early Application Deadline

MEDEX Northwest, the Physician Assistant Training Program at the University of Washington, School of Medicine is a certificate program with either a bachelor’s or a master’s degree option. Applicants applying for a Bachelors degree
must apply for the didactic year of training at either Yakima, WA. or Anchorage, AK. Applicants applying to the Master’s degree option must apply for the didactic year of training in either Seattle or Spokane, WA. Clinical assignments for all students in the second year are arranged throughout the WWAMI region with an emphasis on getting students back to communities they come from. Everyone is expected to travel some.

CASPA offers a reduced fee for anyone applying on or before September 1st, 2008. CASPA can take 2-4 weeks to review and verify the information provided in the CASPA application, and they will not start verifying the information until all supporting documentation has been received by them. (See the CASPA website for details on supporting documents needed to complete your CASPA application packet.)

In addition to the CASPA application MEDEX requires a supplemental application. There are different supplemental applications for the bachelor’s and master’s option. While there is no fee for submitting the MEDEX supplemental application, getting your application submitted early triggers the initial review phase of the admissions process. The earlier we receive your application, the more time we will have to process and verify the information you submit. By submitting both applications on or before September 1st, it allows time to find and correct any issues that may occur when submitting your application(s). If you are an applicant with military experience we require a copy of your DD214
on or before the application deadline.

Excellent candidates include former military corpsmen, nurses, paramedics and other allied health personnel experienced in the direct care of patients. Typically, our strongest candidates have more than the minimum 4000 hours of paid, direct, hands-on patient care as well as meeting the academic requirements for the degree option chosen.

If you remain uncertain about whether a particular course you've taken will meet the MEDEX Northwest prerequisites, email the MEDEX Admissions Office explaining in detail the question(s) that you have or fax transcripts and / or questions to 206-616-3889 attn: Admissions.
