Financial Aid and Scholarships
Financial Aid
It's not too early to consider your ability to pay MEDEX program costs.
If you can demonstrate financial need, you may qualify for financial
aid through the University of Washington Financial Aid Office.
Applications for aid for the 2010 academic year are available after
December 2009. Do not wait for acceptance into the MEDEX program to apply
for aid. Many students apply for aid, and the money available is limited.
Early application gives you a better chance of receiving aid.
To receive financial aid you must fill out a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). Information about the application process can be found through links on the UW Financial Aid web site or from the FAFSA web site.
We suggest you carefully read the information on these web sites before contacting the UW financial aid office. You can obtain a paper FAFSA from the UW Financial Aid office by calling or picking one up.

Scholarships
Scholarships can be an important source of funding for students. However, each student must seek out their own scholarships. MEDEX will inform students of scholarship opportunities once they have been accepted to the program. MEDEX alos offers a few small scholarships to selected students in the first or second year of the program.
Scholarship information can be found on many web sites. There are links to various scholarships and lists of available scholarships on the UW Financial Aid web site and through the UW Scholarship office. Look for the web sites that are free
and do no require registration unless that is something you choose to do.
Scholarship for Service Repayment Opportunities
• WICHE Student Exchange Program
• Washington State Scholarship and Loan Repayment Program
• National Health Service Corps
• Indian Health Services (offers scholarships and loans)
• Nevada Health Service Corps
Other Sources:
Do not forget to check into funding sources in your community--most
public libraries maintain educational scholarship and loan source lists
in their reference areas--and the Financial Aid Office and the Scholarship
Office can also provide information on private loans and scholarships,
such as Rotary Club, Native Health Organizations, etc. This is especially
important for post-baccalaureate students who may only be eligible
for Stafford loans.
