Electives Sites

Pediatric Electives in WWAMI are "only" open to University of Washington School of Medicine (UWSOM) students.

WWAMI Pediatric electives are by permission only and are listed below and on the "Pediatric Medical Student" website.

ALL WWAMI STATES:

• PEDS 699P WWAMI Special Elective (WWAMI states only)

  Training site: various (open to UWSOM students only)

  By specific arrangement for qualified students, special clerkships or ‘away clerkships’ may be available at institutions other than the University of Washington located within the WWAMI region. By Pediatric Department permission only.

WASHINGTON:

• PEDS 624P Pediatric Emergency Medicine – Spokane, WA

  Training site: Spokane, WA (open to UWSOM students only)

  Students will be expected to manage patients with the supervision of a Pediatric Emergency Medicine attending or fellow. Students will have the opportunity to manage patients with a wide spectrum of disease processes as well as learn key emergency medicine procedural skills. By Pediatric Department permission only.

• PEDS 636P Pediatric Cardiology – Spokane, WA

  Training site: Spokane, WA (open to UWSOM students only)

  Students will spend most of their time in the Heart Center. Students will participate in the outpatient evaluation of new and returning patients. Students will also be exposed to echocardiography, cardiac catheterization and will be responsible for following surgical patients (from pre-operative evaluation, observe the surgical procedure and post-operative critical care rounds). • PEDS 672P Pediatric Office Practice – Spokane, WA

  Training site: Spokane, WA (open to UWSOM students only)

  Students have the opportunity to observe and function in the private practice setting, accompany pediatricians as they pursue their daily activities in the community. By Pediatric Department permission only.

• PEDS 674P Pediatric Genetics – Spokane, WA

  Training site: Spokane, WA (open to UWSOM students only)

  Clinical focus on evaluation and management of children with genetic disorders. Exposure to genetic counseling, the evaluation of children with hereditary structural defects and diagnosis and management of children with inborn errors of metabolism. Emphasis on genetic mechanisms that cause human disease. By Pediatric Department permission only.

• PEDS 692P Advanced General Pediatrics (Sub-I) – Spokane, WA
  Training site: Spokane, WA (open to UWSOM students only)

  Students will have an inpatient and outpatient experience with responsibilities comparable to intern for patient workup, diagnosis and care. By Pediatric Department permission only.

• PEDS 693P Advanced General Pediatrics (Sub-I) – Tacoma, WA

  Training site: Mary Bridge Children's Hospital, Tacoma, WA (open to UWSOM students only)

  Students will have an inpatient and outpatient experience with responsibilities comparable to intern for patient workup, diagnosis and care. By Pediatric Department permission only.

ALASKA:

• PEDS 637P Pediatric Cardiology – Anchorage, AK

  Training site: Anchorage, AK (open to UWSOM students only)

  Students will manage patients with the supervision of a Pediatric Cardiologist attending or fellow in the Alaska Children’s Heart Center. Students will have the opportunity to manage patients with a wide spectrum of disease processes as well as learn key cardiology medicine procedural skills. By Pediatric Department permission only.

• PEDS 620 Pediatric Sub-Specialty Clinics – Billings, MT

  Training site: Billings, MT (open to UWSOM students only)

  Students will spend time in the inpatient and outpatient clinic setting.

IDAHO:

• PEDS 622P Pediatric Child Abuse and Neglect – Boise, ID

  Training site: Boise, ID (open to UWSOM students only)

  Students will spend time in the inpatient and outpatient clinic setting.

• PEDS 640P Pediatric Gastroenterology – Boise, ID

  Training site: Boise, ID (open to UWSOM students only)

  Student will see gastroenterology problems, participate in inpatient gastroenterology consultations, outpatient clinic evaluations for new and follow-up patients, and (observe) endoscopic and therapeutic procedures. By Pediatric Department permission only.

• PEDS 678P Pediatric Infectious Disease – Boise, ID

  Training site: Boise, ID (open to UWSOM students only)

  Student will be in an outpatient clinic setting and will see and work up clinical consultations and present to attending physician. Daily rounds will include problem-solving discussions and didactic presentation in broad category of infectious diseases. By Pediatric Department permission only.
