Dr. Patterson’s clinical interests focus on improving patient-provider communication and optimizing prenatal consults with pregnant women. Her research activities include assessing the impact of maternal infections on the neonate, particularly HIV. Her currently-funded work examines how maternal immune status and infant feeding modality mediate maternally-acquired antibodies to respiratory pathogens and neonatal respiratory illness in HIV-exposed, uninfected Kenyan infants. In addition to her commitment to global health, Dr. Patterson values resident and fellow education and is an active contributor to the fellow education program.
