July 17-18, 2009: Tourette Syndrome medical symposium. Tourette Syndrome Association (TSA), in collaboration with the Centers for Disease Control, will be holding a 1.5-day workshop free of cost on July 17 and 18, on Tourette Syndrome (and behavioral tic management), featuring internationally known Doug Woods, PhD. The Chief Residents need your help to work with our senior residents to cover a variety of services, which include General Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Medically Complex Children and the Newborn and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the UW. November 5, 2009: The Lana Staheli Endowed Lecture followed by the Annual Work-Life Balance Symposium. The theme for the day will be “Survive and Thrive: Promoting Resilience and Balance among Pediatric Health Care Professionals”, and will feature guest lecturer, Dan Shapiro, PhD, who is Professor and Chair of the Humanities Department at Penn State College of Medicine. George (Tony) Woodward, MD was Elected as a new member of the 2009 AAP Section on Emergency Medicine Executive Committee. The term is effective November 1, 2009 thru October 31, 2012. Dr Woodward will be eligible for a 2nd 3-year term in 2012.
Maureen Kelley, PhD, Assistant Professor, Bioethics was awarded a grant from the Greenwall Foundation: “Research participation with Wards of the State: Evaluating IRB and Investigator Perspectives”. The objective is to study the ethical challenges faced by pediatric investigators and IRBs in the review and research process involving orphans, runaways, foster children, and homeless children in the context of clinical and social science research, including international trials.
