September 8-12, 2008: Intern Retreat week.
September 15, 2008: Pediatric Small Pilot Project Grant Deadline. Proposals addressing translational research involving any childhood disorder or pediatric antecedents of chronic adult disorders will be considered. September 16, 2008: Children's Hospital Celebration featuring The Beach Boys at Safeco Field. Doors open at 5:30pm, followed by a special program at 7pm and The Beach Boys in concert at 7:30pm.

October 6, 2008: Fall Pediatric Faculty meeting , 5:30-6pm buffet dinner with the program to follow from 6-8pm in Sound Cafe at Children's Hospital. The major topic of this meeting will include new promotion documents and expectations at the University of Washington School of Medicine, along with small group discussions of our promotion process. October 25, 2008: First Annual Nutrition Symposium, 8:00am-3:00pm. Pediatric experts from the fields of medicine and nutrition will address healthy feeding relationships; guiding parents on infant feeding and formulas; the infant or child who is not thriving; when a feeding tube is needed and how to access consultation and services to make the intervention successful; practical approaches for office visits to help children and adolescents achieve healthier weights and fitness levels; the provider’s role in the obesogenic society; motivational interviewing and counseling. II. TWO NEW ENDOWED CHAIR APPOINTMENTS
Julie Park, MD has been appointed as the Bushnell, Towne, Wilkerson Endowed Chair in Pediatric Neuroblastoma.
David Rawlings, MD has been appointed as the Children’s Hospital Guild Association Endowed Chair in Pediatric Immunology Research.
Irv Bernstein, MD has been selected as the recipient of the fifth annual UW Medicine Inventor of the Year Award. He will be honored at a reception on October 29th.
Jason Debley, MD, MPH was awarded a grant from the Firland Foundation to study, "Effects of Azithromycin on Airway Epithelial Cell Production of Factors Associated with Airway Inflammation, Remodeling, and Mucus Secretion in Children with and without Asthma."
Sarah Ringold, MD, Acting Assistant Professor in the Division of Rheumatology has been selected as a 2008 ACR REF/Amgen Pediatric Rheumatology Research Award recipient.
