Department of Pediatrics announces three new endowments at the University of Washington:
Christine Gleason, MD, professor and chief of the division of neonatology has been named the W. Alan Hodson Endowed Chair in Pediatrics. Dr. Gleason formerly held the Hodson Professorship, which has been expanded to an endowed chair through generous gifts. The chair honors former and long-time division chief Alan Hodson, MD, who remains on the faculty. Dr. Gleason joined the Department of Pediatrics in 1997 and has headed the division of neonatal medicine since that time. She is a national leader in pediatrics and in the field of neonatology.
Dimitri Christakis, MD, MPH, has been named the Adkins Professor of Pediatrics. Dr. Christakis is professor of pediatrics and director of the Center for Behavioral and Child Health at the Children’s Hospital. He is a member of the division of general pediatrics. The Adkins Professorship has been held since its inception by Frederick P. Rivara, MD, MPH. Dr. Rivara has relinquished the professorship to receive another endowed chair. Dr. Christakis is a national expert in the role of media on child behavior and is an internationally recognized in health services research.
Hans Ochs, MD, has been named as the first holder of the Jeffrey Modell Endowed Chair in Pediatric Immunology Research. Dr. Ochs is professor of pediatrics in the division of immunology and a world-wide leader in the diagnosis and treatment of immune deficiency disorders.
I would like to congratulate each of these deserving academic leaders for their appointments to these prestigious endowments. I also would like to express my appreciation to the generous donors who have contributed to the academic programs in the Department of Pediatrics and to the University of Washington.
