January 15, 2008, 5-6 PM G-1026 at Children's AND February 21, 2008, 7:30-8:30 AM, G-1026 at Children's: Promotion preparation meeting. The Department of Pediatrics Promotions Committee requires that faculty members who will be considered in the summer/fall of 2008 for promotion attend one of these seminars (along with their Division Head and divisional assistant). If you are being considered in 2008 for promotion (to be effective July 1, 2009), you, your Division Head and your Division Head's assistant MUST attend one of these meetings (note, you do not all need to attend on the same date). February 14, 2008: NIH Career Development Grant Writing Workshop, 7:30am to 11:30am at Children's in room W3747A. This workshop, by the UW Research Funding Service, is targeted towards fellows and junior faculty planning to apply for an NIH (K23, K01, K08) or foundation career development awards. It provides invaluable advice for writing a successful application. The workshop is very interactive and engaging, and gets uniformly great reviews from attendees. This is the first time it's being offered at Children's Hospital. These workshops always fill up quickly! Congratulations to the GI Division for their Ambulatory Achievement Award in the 4th Quarter 2007, for improved wait times. They had an overall improvement of 31%.

Dr. Helén Dichek was selected to serve as an Ad Hoc member at a Study Section meeting (Atherosclerosis and Inflammation in the Cardiovascular Sciences), National Heart Lung and Blood Institute in Washington DC this past October 8-9.

Ed Marcuse, MD, was invited to join a 5 member US delegation to participate in a 30 person international symposium hosted by the University of Tokyo on the Global Challenge of Vaccination: Legal Challenges & Ethical Conundrums.

GRANT NOTICES:

Paul V. Williams, MD, Clinical Professor, and ASTHMA, Inc Clinical Research Center have been awarded a 4 year NIH grant for the Childhood Asthma Management Program Continuation Series 3 (CAMPCS/3) for ongoing follow-up of CAMP participants for ultimate lung growth, ultimate physical height airway hyperresponspiveness and clinical asthma status. Dr. Williams is Center Director of the ASTHMA, Inc. center, one of 8 centers involved since 1991 in the follow-up of 800-1000 children with mild-moderate asthma. This study is currently the largest and longest running cohort study of children with mild-moderate asthma.
