Monday, September 24, by 5:00 PM: The Autumn 2007 round of the Royalty Research Fund (RRF) Proposals are due Monday, September 24, by 5:00 PM. The application, packet, and information about previous awards may be found on the Office of Research website at: http://www.washington.edu/research/rrf.html. Contact the RRF program staff, Barbara Thompson (bthompso@u.washington.edu), and Peter Wilsnack (doogieh@u.washington.edu), if you have questions about the program.

September 28-29: Centennial celebration- Medical Symposium and Alumni reunion, Children's Hospital and Grand Hyatt Seattle. The Symposium is complimentary.

All participants must pre-register. Space is limited and Registration will close August 1, 2007. Contact Kathie Kohorn, CME Coordinator (kathie.kohorn@seattlechildrens.org) for the form.

October 24, 2007, 5-6:30 PM in Wright Auditorium: There will be a meeting with Professors and Associate Professors on October 24, 2007, 5-6:30 PM in Wright Auditorium to discuss non-mandatory promotions. It was suggested that we try video teleconferencing this meeting to those faculty located at Seattle Children's Research Institute. Soundgarden has been reserved for this purpose at 9th & Stewart. Irv Emanuel, MD, Professor Emeritus was awarded the lifetime achievement award in epidemiology from the National Coalition for Excellence in Maternal and Child Health.

Former pediatric resident, Su-Ting Lee, MD, assistant professor of pediatrics at UC Davis, will receive the AAP Hospitalist research award in San Francisco in October

Margaret Rosenfeld, MD has been awarded a Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Grant: "A Pilot Study to evaluate the Tolerability of Inhaled 7% Hypertonic Saline in Infants with Cystic Fibrosis.

Cate Pihoker, MD and the Endocrine clinic received the third quarter ambulatory achievement award for improving wait times at CHRMC.

Christine Gleason, MD, has received an R21 award entitled: Longterm Behavioral Effects of Neonatal Pain and Morphine Treatment in Mice.

The 14th International Pediatric Nephrology Association had significant representation from the Division of Nephrology in the Department of Pediatrics. Bruder Stapleton, MD, chaired the session on: "Diseases, Growth and Development." Bruder presented a 20 minute overview entitled, "Hypercalceria and Its Effect Upon Children's Bones." He was also a member of the scientific organization committee of the 14th Congress. Joseph Flynn, MD, Professor of Pediatrics, presented three plenary sessions at the international workshop on hypertension and at the Congress. Allison Eddy, MD, Professor of Pediatrics, was a member of the scientific program committee and chaired the session on Renal Physiology and Tubular Interstitial Disorders. Daryl Okamura, MD, Assistant Professor of Pediatrics, presented a platform presentation entitled, "Generation of Oxidized Lipoproteins In Obstructive Nephropathy-Atherogenic and Fibrogenic." Sandra Watkins, MD, Professor of Pediatrics, was elected to the 14th Member Council of the International Pediatric Nephrology Association by the membership.
