The program is now working with DTaP (diphtheria, tetanus, acellluar pertussis) program to see that children receive all their immunizations on time.

Congratulations to Phillip Chance, MD, Head, Division of Genetics and Development, and Mark Hannibal, MD, PhD, Assistant Professor, Medical Genetics, for the discovery of hereditary neuralgic amyotrophy (HNA). This disorder may cause sudden onset of severe attacks of pain in the shoulders and arms, along with paralysis of arm/hand function and loss of sensation. Their lab first mapped the gene for this disorder to chromosome 17 in 1995 and have spent the last 10 years searching for the actual gene. During the past year, in collaboration with research groups in Antwerp and Meunster, they found the gene for HNA. Modeling this disorder in transgenic animals could have important implications for future research and treatment of severe, chronic pain in humans. The paper appeared in Nature Genetics 37, 1044-1046 (01 Oct 2005), Brief Communications.
Bruder Stapleton, MD, was a guest faculty member at the VII Congress of Latin American Pediatric Nephrologists in San Jose, Costa Rica, November 4-8, 1002. He presented three lectures.
