Tuesday, June 21, 2005: SPR Application Deadline
July 22-23, 2005: The Center for Pediatric Bioethics at Children's Hospital and Regional Medical Center sponsors it's first annual conference in pediatric bioethics on "Current Controversies in Pediatric Research Ethics" to be held July 22-23, 2005, in Seattle, Washington. This conference will focus on pediatric research-regulations, issues related to consent and assent, ethical conduct, defining minimal risk, academic and industry relations and conflicts of interest. Registration fee is $150 before May 1st and $225 after May 1st. Access additional conference information and register at www.seattlechildrens.org/bioethics
Tuesday, July 12, 8:00AM-1:00 PM: New Fellows Orientation, at the Center for Urban Horticulture. The Orientation is designed to provide an overview of fellowship survival skills and to allow fellows an opportunity to meet one another. It has been very well received in the past. While it is geared towards incoming fellows, all are welcome to attend. Please help spread the word! Also, in conjunction with the orientation, we'll be having an informal evening get-together for fellows and faculty at Margaret Rosenfeld's home on Monday July 11 from 6 to 8 pm. Faculty NewsCongratulations to Cate Pihoker, MD and Lenna Liu, MD, MPH on their recent research presentations at the ADA meeting.
The following NSF grant was approved for funding: "Information integration in the presence of uncertainty". 1.5 million over 3 years. The three co-PIs are Alon Halevy (Computer Science), Peter Tarczy-Hornoch (Pediatrics, Biomedical Informatics, Computer Science), and Dan Suciu.
Peter Tarczy-Hornoch is also the principle investigator on a grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to train students in a new public health informatics program. The new program will be part of the existing UW Biomedical and Health Informatics training program.
